At the Graduate School of Pharmacy (doctoral program) of Aichi Gakuin University, we aim to train pharmacists well versed in the latest pharmacy knowledge and pharmaceutical researchers who can achieve high-level research results. While the research fields are medicinal molecular pharmacy and medicinal functional pharmacy, the curriculum is organized to connect the expertise and skills of each field to medical pharmacy development rather than simply dividing it into two fields.
In the field of medicinal molecular pharmacy, students can encounter insights helpful for clarifying functional action, pharmaceutical research and development, and prevention of side effects through education and research in the latest life sciences, immunology, neuroscience, pharmacology, and medical pharmacy. In particular, because research and development of new drugs requires world-class knowledge and skills, we provide an environment that enables students to engage in international and cross-disciplinary research to acquire these abilities.
On the other hand, we provide education and research that leads to the development of appropriate practical skills for providing guidance on appropriate use of multiple medicines, proactively contributing to team-based care, preventing nosocomial infections, and managing investigational products as required in clinical settings.
For research guidance, the Graduate School has established a guidance system with multiple faculty members so that graduate students can cultivate the creativity and originality to apply knowledge from multiple fields and aspire to be individuals who can play leading roles in developing new pharmaceutical research.
Treatment of illness is shifting from physician-centered care to team-based care, where physicians, pharmacists, and nurses collaborate as equals to provide patient-centered care. On the other hand, the expectations of society for medical pharmacy are increasing, focusing on the proper use of pharmaceuticals and appropriate evaluation of medicinal effects. These can be described as social expectations for pharmacists, and pharmacists need to cultivate new skills to adapt to medical technology that advances daily and a medical system that is changing. They also need to contribute to the provision of more advanced medical care and the development of innovative pharmaceuticals.
So, the pharmacists we want to train are highly specialized pharmacists who can respond to changes in society and the evolution of pharmacy and medical care even 10 or 20 years into the future and be active in society for a long time. In particular, they are individuals equipped with the ability to respond to issues, including aging populations and globalization in the region, as well as digitalization, automation, and other changes of society as a whole. Students can aim to become highly skilled specialized pharmacists who serve at the core of community healthcare with deep knowledge of the clinical care and medical pharmacy fields.
The foundation for developing individuals at the Graduate School of Pharmacy is the cultivation of research skills that enable independent discovery and resolution of diverse new issues concerning pharmacy and medical pharmacy, and our purpose is to train pharmaceutical and medical pharmaceutical researchers who can contribute to society with fostering the ability to perform research and acquisition of deep insight into medical pharmacy as our two pillars.
Therefore, our educational and research objective is to cultivate the ability to respond flexibly to various issues with profound knowledge and advanced expertise across the entire fields of pharmacy and medical pharmacy, as well as creativity and originality.
