By expanding communication with foreign teachers and learning that integrates English and cultures, the department sharpens the English proficiency and cross-cultural understanding needed to thrive in a global society.

Cross-cultural understanding is an essential skill in global society. Based on the comprehensive English proficiency improved in Year 1, students learn about the things they are passionate about from among a wide range of cultures.

CLIL is a learning method that originated in Europe and involves learning about cultures through English. In addition to acquiring practical English skills from the basics, students collaboratively learn about a variety of points of view and values and present their opinions.

Materials are prepared using digital technology, and discussions are held in English through COIL. Through digital communications in English, students polish their language skills as tools to pave the way to careers.

Four specialized fields based on the desired region and purpose of study

The department offers four fields that integrate the study of English and culture: American Culture, British Culture, Cultures of the English-Speaking World, and English Studies. They cover a wide range of topics, including literature, music, film, musicals, fashion, language, education, religions, and ethnic groups. Our aim is individuals who can communicate their thoughts from a variety of perspectives in English while digging deeper into learning about areas of personal interest.

Four-year curriculum for expanding your possibilities through English

1st year
Goal: TOEIC 450 or higher
- Learn about the cultures of English-speaking countries in English
- Polish English proficiency in classes divided by proficiency level
- Acquire academic skills through basic exercises

- Deepen cross-cultural understanding to broaden your perspective
- Cultivate your ability to communicate in English
- Expand your perspective toward diverse cultures
- Select a specialized field to learn from the four fields
3rd year
Goal: TOEIC 730 or higher
- Improve your ability to communicate Japanese culture in English
- Acquire more specialized knowledge
- Further improve English proficiency and cross-cultural understanding
- Decide a study theme to research/analyze
4th year
- Make study presentations both in Japanese and English
- Analyze different cultures and global society from multiple perspectives
- Graduation thesis written as the culmination
