Director,
Center for International Programs

The Center for International Programs was established at Aichi
Gakuin University (AGU) in 2003. It has functioned as a liaison to connect
international students from various countries with AGU professors and students,
and to link research institutions and universities across the world with our
university. The Center helps students to participate in various programs so that
they can acquire sufficient language skills and invaluable cultural experiences
that will enable them to become active individuals who can play leading roles in
our globalized society. We offer student exchange programs with affiliated
universities, and summer language training programs in the UK, Australia, and
Canada. Several years ago, we launched a new program called the Global
Individual Training Program, which dispatches students to three different
countries: Taiwan, Korea and Vietnam.

In 2013, we opened the AGU English Lounge to offer a space for
all students, staff and faculty to enjoy English conversation. Students can
visit the lounge to improve their English speaking skill and to learn how to be
“brave” speaking up in English. The English Lounge Staff have experienced living
overseas and strive to help the visitors enjoy themselves. The Center for
International Programs also holds English Lunch Club once a month, both on the
Meijo-Koen Campus as well as on the Nisshin Campus. Moreover, the Center
sponsors an annual speech contest for foreign students to make speeches in
Japanese, and for Japanese students make speeches in English. This is a
challenge for all the participants to show the fruit of their daily study and
effort. In the future, we hope to expand the educational exchange
activities to include more opportunities both within the university as well as
those hosted by international associations and community groups. At the Center,
our goal is to develop talented individuals with prosperous, international
perspectives who can play an active role in the world. |
