科目のねらい | | This course/subject discusses a new level of cooperation and interaction between Japan and Myanmar. It covers topics on ODA, security, humanity, sociopolitical changes and environment. International relations and regional positions of Japan and Myanmar are discussed. The challenges of Myanmar are analysed in the context of the roles of the middle powers and the United Nations in tackling global challenges of today's interconnected world affecting Myanmar and the region. |

到達目標 | | (1) Students will be able to use methodologies of regional and area studies and digest information. (2) Students will be able to understand complex perspectives of the region including challenges. (3) Students will develop skills in applied writing on thematic topics/reports assigned by lecturers. (4) Students will gain skills to discover situational urgencies and analyze cause-impact relations on a critical issue of their own areas of interest. (5) Students will have a sound knowledge foundation to become policy analysts, country experts and subject specialists in the future. |

Why Japan matters: Japan's foreign aid in Regional and global perspectives 5. Japan's choice and the neighbors' rise 6. Myanmar's international relations and regional standing 7. Japan on SDGs, global compact, CSR, technology and education. 8. Historical root and cultural similarity 9. Japan- Myanmar political relations 10. Japan-Myanmar socioeconomic relations 11. Democracy and justice: Hurdles and opportunities 12. Development and peace: Through infrastructure, human security and human development 13. Japan's initiatives and Burma's expectations 14. Collaborations among academia, voluntary sector and media on Myanmar's issues 15. Japan's position on Myanmar's transition: rule of law, constitutional deadlock and peace |

授業外の学修 (予習・復習) | | (1) Read reference books critically before each lecture. (2) Formulate well-organized and well-supported arguments per topic after each class for discussion. (3) Each student is required to present a paper in a Special Seminar. |
