Seminar for Interdisciplinary Special Area Studies (ISAS)
科目のねらい
The seminar will focus on six major activities; literature review, theoretical and methodological questions, empirical examples and studies, conceptual/analytical framework formulation, field works and interpretation, and policy discussion in the field of Global Affairs and/or Special Area Studies.
到達目標
(1) This seminar enables each student to gain skills in developing an original and interdisciplinary research project from the step of problem identification to methodology development to field surveys to dissertation writing.
(2) Students will be enriched with creativity, academic excellence and expertise on their fields leading to earn a doctoral degree and then to become policy analysts, country/area experts and subject specialists.
授業の内容・
計画
Each student is free to take an initiative in applying relevant approach - cross-disciplinary, interdisciplinary or transdisciplinary approach in accomplishing his/her special area studies through the following schedules.

In any cases, all students are required to fulfill the following requirements/tasks in the third year.
1) Overall outline, first draft and consultation (week 1 ~ week 6)
2) Methodological and theoretical check (week 7 ~ week 10)
3) Presentation weeks (week 11)
4) Second draft (week 12 ~ week 15)
5) Individual chapters in each part (week 16 ~ week 20)
6) Feedback and external supervision-support (week 21)
7) Finalizing dissertation (week 22 ~ week 25)
8) Submission of dissertation (week 26)
9) Additional thematic outputs (week 27 ~ week 30)
評価方法
(基準等)
Comprehensive evaluations will be based upon writing and presentation (20%) and final dissertation. (80%).
授業外の学修
(予習・復習)
Students are required to do pre-seminar and post-seminar preparations on weekly basis. They are allowed to conduct fieldworks, attend study meetings/academic events, and make consultative/presentation trips as necessary during the semester.

参考書
Every student should build a long list of references concerning each research concentration. In addition, a variety of materials from different sources will be added as the seminar's common resources to digest, discuss and apply for everyone's knowledge gains and methodological support.
