Disney Media Literacy: Disney as Cultural Teacher
授業の概要
This is a media-based course on ”reading Disney”: how to understand the social and cultural messages in Disney features. From the beginning, Walt Disney sought to present ”American” values and viewpoints through his productions. The first semester will cover the earliest Disney animations as well as Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, and Pocahontas.

To develop students' media literacy.
To notice the social, cultural, gender, and "American" messages in Disney.
To understand the Disney Worldview.
To consider whether Disney is "good" for children.

Questions can be asked during the lesson, after class, at lunchtime, or in my office hours.
備考
For homework, read assigned chapters in the bilingual text and do the Reading Quizzes. Students should also answer Movie Guide plot questions for the film segments that are shown in class and do various worksheets.
