到達目標 | | ”DISNEY as Cultural Teacher” This is a media-based course on ”reading Disney”: how to understand the social and cultural messages in Disney features, from the earliest animations to full-length ”live action” movies, and also including the various Disneylands.
(このメディア英語の講義ではディズニーを読んでいきます。初期のアニメ映画から生のアクション映画まで、ディズニー映画が伝えようとする社会的・文化的メッセージの理解に努めます。また下記のようなディズニーランドに関する様々な側面についても考察していきます。) |

授業の内容・ 計画 | | A continuing analysis of the Disney ”cultural messages.” We will look at how ”Disneyification” (Disney's retelling of fairy tales and history) works, how Disney ”educates” children, and how Disney films have responded to the changing times.
引き続き”cultural messages”を分析していきます。どのようにディズニー化が広がったのか、どのようにディズニーが子供たちの教育に影響を与えるのか、そしてどのようにディズニー映画が変わりゆく時勢に対応してきたのかを考察していきます。
The second semester will cover Disney's view of Nature (Bambi, True Life Adventures) and Disney & feminism (in Cinderella and Pretty Woman). |

評価方法 (基準等) | | Evaluation based on participation (10%), worksheets (30%), and exams on the movies (60%). |

授業外の学修 (予習・復習) | | For homework, read assigned chapters in the bilingual text and do the Reading Quizzes. Students should also answer Movie Guide plot questions for the film segments that are shown in class and do various worksheets. |
