授業の概要 (目標) | | The first goal goal of this class is to improve the student’s ability to understand naturally spoken native speaker English. Every week will feature a variety of naturally spoken English input from both the teacher and various media sources. The second goal of the class will be to get much practice speaking communicative spoken English. Much of the practice will come from inputting, practicing and then performing scenes from the movie Back to the Future. This will be an introduction to the art of recitation which is an excellent method of practicing the skill of speaking communicative English. |

授業の内容・ スケジュール | | 1 Long time no See! Reintroduce to other students--discuss summer vacations. Introduce goals of second semester. Review main points of 1st semester.
2 Future Discussing future predictions and certainties vs probabilities. One-minute sustained English speaking activity: What is my future dream?
3 Movie Skit Practice Continue Back to the Future. Begin scene #4 “Jesus George, it’s a wonder I was ever born!”!”
4 Jobs / abilities Discussing different jobs. Mock job interview activity. Students will practice by interviewing several other students for an imaginary job.
5 Movie Skit Practice Continue practicing Back to the Future scene #4.
6 Making Weekend Plans: Inviting people and making weekend plans. Deciding schedules and making polite refusals.
7 Midterm Review/quiz Midterm review and short vocabulary quiz and speaking test.
8 Sustained Speaking: One-minute speaking drill based on describing future plans for next vacation and after Aichi Gakuin.
9 Shopping and Travel English Using English for shopping and negotiating. Travel English activity and role play. Imaginary hotel and restaurant based on British TV show “Fawlty Towers.”
10 Movie Skit Practice Back to the Future Scene #5: “Do you mind if we park for a while?”
11 Describing how to do things: Describing how to do things. Imperative voice. Adverbs of time and order. Students will make small cookbooks based on their own personal recipes.
12 Dr. Seuss Recital: Begin inputting and practicing “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” Rhythm, blending & intonation
13 Christmas Party Perform Grinch story recital and watch video in class. Followed by in-class American style Christmas Party.
14 Review of all material from class for both spoken and written examinations.
15 Speaking test: One on one speaking tests based on one minute speaking drills.
16 Final Written test based on grammar and vocabulary from textbook and supplementary material. |
