The emphasis will be on oral communication with particular focus on the enhancement of listening competence. What factors do we need to be aware of in order to comprehend verbal presentations in English? When we engage in communicative activities, whether as a listener or even speaker, how do we become more effective? In short, how can we improve our English communication skills? These are the basic questions that this course will try and address. -------- 授業の内容・ スケジュール Prof. Ueda; This course will focus on the listening skills. The first half of the class time will be spent on basic listening tasks in English. The second half of the class time deals with a Special English program at VOA. You can not only improve your listening skill, but also vocabulary and grammar. Topics include a variety of important global issues, such as activism, poverty, environmental problems, cross-cultural communication, and others.
