Target Sentences

Your homework from now on (to July 22=the day of the exam) is to PRACTICE the sample sentences for 10 minutes each day. The five webpages have EXPANDED to 11 webpages. I will CONTINUE to WRITE more webpages BASED on the sentences in the textbook. You will NEED to MASTER these kinds of sentences (a) for the exam (short term goal) and (b) so that you can EXPLAIN medicines in English when you BECOME pharmacists (long term goal).

In order to STORE these sentence patterns in your long-term memory, you NEED to REVIEW your Target Sentences again and again at intervals of two to six weeks (the Gold List Method). Do NOT CRAM, just REVIEW the sentences. This will strengthen the connections in your brain (like Baby Robert's brain). You WANT to TRAIN several different parts of your brain: the motor cortex for your mouth (speaking) and for your hand (writing), your auditory cortex (listening comprehension), and, if possible, your visual cortex (visual images of meaning).

I strongly RECOMMEND that you WRITE each day's Target Sentences by hand on a piece of paper that you have FOLDED into 4区. USE a new piece of paper every day. WRITE the verbs in red ink. REPEAT the phrases(声を出す)in each 区 (about 5 times) as you WRITE them. Then when you are FINISHED WRITING, ... PRACTICE SAYING the full sentence 2 or 3 times, without looking at what you have WRITTEN. TRY to SPEED the sentence UP (like the Bounce Patrol does with numbers).

Today we are going to HAVE a Mid-term Exam on paper. It will only ACCOUNT for 10% of your overall grade, but it will HELP you DECIDE whether or not you are well-prepared for the Final Exam (50% of the grade).

After going over the Exam ... GO to your channels on Teams. One person will OPEN a new meeting. The others will JOIN that meeting. Then WRITE your first message: Your group's name ... and ... Week 12.

CHOOSE your Leader. Then WRITE your second message: the Leader's name.

Finally WRITE the plan in two messages:
(third message) Plan A: 3-Minute Routine
(fourth message) Textbook exercises: pages 36 to 38.

TIME yourselves and TRY to KEEP the pace lively ... 3 minutes (English Only) for each sentence.

Time for You to Practice

During the Group Work Leaders should MAKE SURE that all students that are online KEEP their microphones ON (so that they can SPEAK) AND their cameras ON (so that they can SEE each other).

Group X2 Week 12
Leader: Hanako
Plan A: 3-Minute Routine
Textbook pp. 34-38

((鈴)): Apply some of this ointment ...
((山)): Insert one of these suppositories ...
((伊)): Apply one of these anti-fever patches ...
Now LET's GO to your channels on Teams to ENJOY some English practice in your discussion groups.
You NEED to CHOOSE a leader.

At the top of your report WRITE
(message #1) your group's name, "Week 12",
(message #2) the leader's name,
(message #3) Plan A: 3-Minute Routine, and
(message #4) Textbook pp. 34-38.

Follow the 3-Minute Routine explained in Lesson 1 for each sentence. The sentences should be about textbook exercises in Lessons 7 and 8.

If you HAVE any questions about what you are supposed to be DOING, first DISCUSS the problem with your group, then ... if you are still in doubt, DO what you or your group THINK is right, (RAISE your hand if you're in the classroom) and SHOW it to the teacher (the PDS Cycle).
