In 1974, a psychology course was established in the Graduate School of Letters. Following this event, during the last 30 or more years. the course has developed and played an active. and a central role in teaching psychology and research in the central districts of Japan. However, considering recent changes and future perspectives in psychology, a new policy and a framework are necessary for meeting the social requirements of this discipline and for promoting its development. The psychology course was reestablished in the Graduate School of Psychological and Physical Science in April 2006 that was independent of the Graduate school of Letters, for the purpose of understanding human beings and for supporting their interpersonal relationships based on the standpoint of mind-body correlations and psychosomatic science, which holds that "mental" problems should not be understood separately from "physical" problems.
