The Graduate School of Dentistry, established in March 1968, aims to train students to carry out research in their chosen sphere of speciality, to teach the theory and application of dental science, to make a contribution to the development of cultural and social welfare and health promotion, and to train future leaders, researchers and educators in the various disciplines of dental science.
a.Features of the Curriculum
- A systematic teaching method is used for specialized subjects, bringing together the courses of basic dental science and dentistry in the clinic.
- There are lectures and practica in the freshmen's main, secondary and elective subjects In addition, the applied studies course teaches laboratory work methods.
- From the second year, the students concentrate on their major and submit a degree thesis in the fourth year.
- Depending on the chosen major the students may also study and research at other universities and institutes in Japan on abroad.
b.Research Fields
A wide range of subjects is covered from the basics of fundamental to clinical dentistry: dentistry to the clinic relating to:
- Dental treatment and prevention of diseases and disorders in the mouth, teeth and jaws.
- Basic studies in medical science.
- Basic studies in dental science.
- Studies in health promotion.
- Study of bio-materials and their development.
c.Teachers and Research Reports
Guidance is given by professors who are experts in their specialities. Research achievements are regularly reported at local and international meetings of specialists and published in authoritative Japanese and international scientific journals.
